About Diabetes Advisor
The Diabetes Advisor web site is one of a growing
number of sites dedicated to providing greater consumer
awareness in various fields of medical speciality.
The idea is quite simple. The intention is to provide people with the necessary
information and resources to be able to firstly understand their bodies better
and any medical conditions they might have, and then to take that information
and, in conjunction with the appropriate health specialists, act upon it.
Most health specialists just don't have enough time to sit down with each
patient and discuss their condition in great depth and to answer every worry
and concern as it occurs. This site then provides not an alternative, but rather
more of a second opinion which might help the patient perhaps to gather together
and frame some specific questions to ask of their specialist consultant.
This is a form of "empowerism" for the interested health-conscious patient,
who indeed is a "consumer" of the health services available in whichever country
they live. With the appropriate and full knowledge of his or her state of
health, the patient will gain confidence not only through a better understanding
of their condition, but also through being able to interact on more equal terms
with their medical practioners.
Such a web site as this can of course never replace the years of training
and experience of doctors and surgeons, however it can be a significant aid
in the dissemination of quality medical information in a form more readily
digestible by the average person.
